Narcotics Anonymous is established
Using AA's 12 step model, drug addicts help each other stop using and recover.
Today, nearly 67,000 weekly NA meetings are held in 139 countries.
Alcoholics Anonymous is founded
In AA, alcoholics help each other stop drinking, using a program called the Twelve Steps.
Since 1935, the Twelve Steps and AA's model of recovery have been adapted by other groups of people struggling with a variety of destructive behaviors, including drug use, compulsive gambling, and overeating.
Through other 12-Step programs, our founders had enjoyed years of freedom from active addiction. But slowly technology became as problematic for them as other manifestations of addiction had been. In desperation, they sought out others addicted to technology and applied the same process that had saved their lives once before.
